BOLTON boxer Amir Khan has hit back at critics after posting a festive family photo on Christmas Day.

Amir Khan has responded to online trolls who sent him hateful comments after he took a cute snap with his family at Christmas.

The 33-year-old, who is a practising Muslim, shared the image of himself, his wife Faryal Makhdoom, and their two children, Lamaisah and Alayna, on Instagram.

The family were posed in front of a Christmas tree in matching pyjamas. Mr Khan posted the picture on his social media, saying: "Happy holidays from mine to yours, enjoy the festive season.”

But the joyful message was met with serious disagreement from some social media users who sent him abuse for celebrating a traditionally Christian holiday. One said: "Have some respect for your religion.”

Another commented: “Imagine having a Christmas tree and being Muslim, could never be me.”

On Boxing Day, the Olympic medallist responded saying: "So shocked by all the hate I’m getting on my Twitter and my Instagram for wishing everyone Merry Christmas and posting a picture with my family in Christmas outfits.

"Just want to tell those people ‘I don’t give a f**k’."

A wave of support followed, with one Twitter user writing: "I became Muslim 31 years ago, and always look forward to celebrating Christmas with my large Christian family at my parents house just as they enjoy celebrating Eid with us.

"Sharing and celebrating together is what unites us and removes the divide/hate we see in society."

Another said: "You are allowed to celebrate Christmas as you wish. I hope you and your family had a lovely time."

Mr Khan has not let the haters slow him down, rounding off his celebrations in New York.
