A 17-YEAR-OLD has become the first person in the Harle Syke and Briercliffe area of Burnley to be given an Anti-Social Behaviour Order as part of a campaign to tackle underage drinking.
Stuart Graham, of Shore Avenue, was handed the order by Burnley magistrates.
It prohibits him from buying alcohol and being in possession of alcohol.
He is also banned from being under the influence of alcohol in any public place and being in Burnley Road, Briercliffe, between the Spar Shop and Towneley Street, Briercliffe, or being present at the rear of those three blocks of properties.
Police Community Support Officer Dave Johnson said: "A lot of excellent work is being done in the Briercliffe and Harle Syke areas to help reduce underage drinking and associated anti-social behaviour and damage.
"That includes test purchases at local off licences, extra patrols of nuisance hot spots and the implementation of initiatives such as the new Shop Watch Scheme.
"I hope the order sends a clear message out to other local youths -- that message being that drink related anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated."
He added: "Now we've secured the first ASBO in this area of Burnley, we are hoping it will encourage more people to come forward with the names of offenders.
"In particular, we'd be pleased to hear from anyone with any information on the recent spate of graffiti in the Briercliffe area."
Anybody with information should can call the council's anti-social behaviour team via the "It's Your Call" action line on 0845 605 2222 .
