ANOTHER Lancashire County Council library has moved a step closer to reopening.
The authority yesterday completed the transfer of Trawden Library to community group in the village.
The Trustees of Trawden Forest Community Centre plan to reopen the building not just as a library but including a co-operative shop, post office, and provide a range of support to reduce social isolation, help people find jobs, and learn digital skills.
When it opens its doors again it will be the twelfth of 26 closed by the previous Labour administration at County Hall to come back into operation.
The new Conservative leadership of the authority has already reopened the libraries in Earby, Whalley, Burnley Campus, Barrowford and Oswaldtwistle as part of fulfilling its election promise of May last year.
Cllr Peter Buckley, county culture boss, said: "We're continuing to work hard to reopen libraries wherever they've been closed, and I'm very pleased that we've now reached the stage of completing the transfer of Trawden Library.
"The Trustees have successfully secured grants to carry out renovation. I look forward it becoming a vibrant hub for the community."
