MOTORISTS faced heavy delays at rush hour at the M65/M61 junction after an Audi caught fire.
Police were called to the M61 southbound between junctions 8 and 9, close to Chorley, at about 6pm.
A Highways England spokesman said the incident took place close to the junction 9 where the two motorways cross.
Traffic was delayed by up to 20 minutes as police dealt with the incident.
The car has since been towed and traffic is returning to normal.
The aftermath of the fire was captured on a driver's dashcam.
The driver said: "It looked quite bad. The sat nav said it was causing delays of at least 20 minutes at one point but by the time I reached it at about 6.15pm it seemed to have been cleared, but there were still big queues getting onto the M61 from the M65."
