A FORMER butcher is bidding for a place in the record books by cooking the world's biggest breakfast.
Andrew Holt will attempt the feat at Bacup Food and Black Pudding Festival, on August 25.
He is planning to use a football-sized ostrich egg, huge slices of bacon, oversized sausages, the biggest black pudding and massive mushrooms.
The meal should be big enough to feed up to 30 people at the seventh annual festival.
It could take a spot in the record books as, at present, no record has been set for the world's biggest breakfast.
Mr Holt, who has organised the festival and runs the Real Lancashire Black Pudding Company, said: "We have two ostrich eggs, one for practice and one for the breakfast.
"No one has any experience of frying these eggs and if it turns out we can't fry them it will be scrambled egg."
The 45-year-old is aiming to improve on last year's fundraising total of £3,670.
His breakfasts will be on sale together with tickets for raffles, tombolas and a guess the weight of the egg competition to raise money for Derian House Children's Hospice.
Mr Holt said: "It's such a worthy charity which helps terminally-ill children to makes their last days better. We are hoping to increase on last year's total."
The event, to highlight Lancashire's best-loved delicacies and to celebrate local producers, will include meal preparation using local produce, cookery demonstrations and a 'Ready Steady Cook' type event featuring local chefs.
There will also be a mini-food market selling a range of Lancashire produce such as tripe, pork and black pudding sausages, local cheeses, local fudge and preserves.
There will be traditional folk entertainment including the Britannia Coconut Dancers accompanied by musicians and poetry.
The event takes place at Bacup Leisure Hall, Burnley Road, from 10am. For more information email: andy.pudman@ukonline.co.uk or visit website below.
