Chorley Harriers travelled far and wide during a busy week of competition.
Dominic Raby shone with a course best of 1.28.47 in the 20k Lakeland Garburn Trail Race for 18th place. Adam Critchley returned from injury with 52nd in 1.46.54 with Graham Schofield home on the two hour mark, Pete Starkey two minutes later and Gary Jones 177th in 2.06.34 from a strong field of 359.
Jenny Wyles had a fine run in the Wharfedale Off-Road Marathon which set off from Skipton on a challenging course with 2600ft of ascent over 26 miles. She won the prize of third lady and 40th overall in four hours 23 minutes. Jacqueline Redmayne wasn't far behind as sixth lady in 4.44.30 before then taking on the Morecambe 10k with a time of 49.17.
New member Lynne Clough got off to a flying start at the Knowl Hill Fell Race near Rochdale. Over the six mile course with a 1300ft ascent she won the Lady Vet35 category. Dave Lee was also among the honours claiming first Male Vet60, while Nikki Rushton and Pete Gilham were also in action for the Harriers.
On the home front, the club hosted race two of their Four Mile Series' and only Mike Ogle improved his time from the May fixture, bettering it by half a minute with 29.15. John Sutton was first Harrier home for 11th place in 21.59. Philip Iddon equalled his previous time down to the second in 25.05 for 55th. Paul Freary of Belgrave Harriers leads the series overall with a second and third place to his credit.
The Chorley juniors enjoyed a double success at the Ryder Run in Cuerden Valley Park with Adam Henley crossing the line in first place, and Ella Crabtree first female home in the 2.5k race. In the senior 5k event John Sutton took second place in 17.36 and Josh Skinner was sixth in 18.25.
Elsewhere, Philip Iddon finished 57th in the soaring heat of the Grasmere Gallop with 56.48. Over a tough seven miles and John Chaplin was 20th in the Hollins Green 5k at Warrington in 17.39.
