Chorley Harriers' juniors produced some excellent performances last Friday at the second meeting of the Astley Park series.

Under 13s Adam Henley and Mark Brown are in keen competition at the moment and they took fourth and fifth places respectively in the one mile event with Adam just five seconds ahead of Mark at the line with a time of 6.12 with Tom Booth not far behind in 11th.

Madelyn Smith made a great improvement on last month's time in 6.46 for 15th place, just a nose in front of Ella Crabtree who was first Under 11 girl.

The juniors also made their mark in the senior 5k race with Sara Parkinson maintaining top form as first Lady home and 16th overall, beating her April time by 10 seconds with 19.36.

Josh Skinner clinched a distinguished top ten spot with a good time of 18.54. Other performances of note from the young Harriers were Alison Fowler knocking a minute off her previous course best in 24.34, and Emily Unsworth making her debut at senior level with a game effort in 26.46.

In midweek the Horwich Jubilee series began with a tough 5 mile course around the roads of Rivington. John Sutton led the Harriers home for 11th place in 28.06 with Russell Barron in close company finishing 12th in 28.19.

A minute later Dave Biddulph secured 19th with a typically resolute run, meanwhile Shane Cliffe's efforts for 34.18 secured 3rd team prize for the Chorley men. Liam Boardman was next Harrier over the line in 34.52, just ahead of Martin Witty. Graham Schofield, who had the Jersey Half Marathon in mind, clocked 35.42 whilst blind runner Mike Ogle was some way short of his best with Graham Stephenson in 38.43.

On the fells, three Harriers travelled to the Lake District for the 40th Fairfield Horseshoe Race, an English Championship event with around 450 runners taking on the 10 mile course with 3000ft of ascent. Dominic Raby ran well and came within a whisker of a top fifty finish and a championship point with a time of 1.29.16. John Sutton was twenty places on in 72nd but only two minutes later in 1.31.18. Jenny Wyles was 84th lady with a time of 2.13.06.

On Sunday, Chorley Harriers are staging their annual 10 Mile Road Race which starts at 11am in Worden Park, Leyland and is open to runners of all levels.

The entry fee is £5 for pre-entries from club runners, £7 for unattached runners and £2 extra for entries on the day. There is a reduced price for all lady vet 60's and male vet 65's.
