PLANS have been submitted to build an Aldi with car parking servicing on the site of The Peel Centre at Whitebirk.
The Peel Centre is a retail park located on the north east side of Whitebirk Drive.
The vacant Unit 2, at the centre of the park, will be demolished and replaced with a purpose built Aldi foodstore.
The high proportion of vacant units is leading to deterioration of the environment at the park and increasing problems of vandalism, unauthorised access by Travellers and anti-social behaviour.
Convenience goods will make up 80 per cent of the store while 20 per cent will be allocated for comparison goods. There will be a net gain of 59 customer car parking spaces due to the unit being of a smaller scale than the existing one.
In total there will be 178 spaces, eight of which will be for disabled customers and 15 will be parent and child spaces. The main store entrance will be on the southern elevation with the servicing to the rear on the north and west elevations.
