BOLD Venture Park’s weather station could be demolished owing to its vandalised state.
Sunnyhurst councillor Brian Taylor is to meet Blackburn with Darwen environment boss Tony Watson to discuss the future of the 113-year-old structure.
The issue was discussed at the August meeting of the Friends of Bold Venture Park. Members were told by secretary Shaun Fenton: “It is an eyesore in its current state and has been a target for vandalism.”

The meeting was told that RSCE Consulting Engineers will carry out a structural report on the building.
"Members agreed that once that report is complete they will discuss if the weather station should be restored, rebuilt or replaced with something else, based on its heritage. One idea proposed was asking local firm WEC to copy the top of Darwen Tower or build a tall column with weather vane.
The original structure, not the current brick replacement, was built in 1902. Any redevelopment or restoration would need permission from the borough council, as owners of the park, as the weather station is listed. Cllr Taylor said: “I think replacement is the only option but we will need funding.”
