A TEEN girl band are hoping to top the charts and raise cash for charity with their debut single and tour of North West schools.
Arizona, a girl group from Alder Grange Community and Technology School, Rawtenstall, featuring Year 11 opera singer Grace O’Malley and sixth form students students Jess Haworth, Sophie Wooding and Jess Watts, released their track Electricity yesterday, with all proceeds going to Petal Childhood Cancer Charity.
The single and music video will be available through more than 40 online retailers including iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, and Amazon.
A promo version of the song can be heard on the group’s Facebook site and Twitter feed.
The band’s tour will see them perform to more than 20,000 students at various schools and events including All Saints Catholic High School in Rawtenstall, Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, and Waterfoot Primary School on Thursday, and Sir John Thursby Community College in Burnley and Colne Primet Academy on Friday.
Interviews with teenage cancer sufferer Sonny Ashworth, the student who inspired the group, and his family about the work of Petal Cancer Research, the impact of the disease and how charities have supported them, will been screened before each performance.
Sonny said: “It’s been a really humbling experience for me, but it’s great to see what the girls have done.
“And it’s fantastic to see people raising money for Petal Cancer Research, which is a great cause. The tour is going really well, and with all this hard work the girls definitely deserve to make it into the Top 40."
The Official Chart Company has confirmed that everything is now in place for the single to be included in the charts, depending on how many singles are sold.
It is available for download for 99p.
