THE post office in Clayton-le-Moors has re-opened after a renovation.
The office, in Pickup Street, was closed for almost a month while £80,000 of work was carried out.
Owner and postmaster Zafar Ali said: “It’s one of the biggest transformations in the Post Office network.
“When I bought the post office two-and-a-half years ago, I was going to get it done straight away, but I was told not to do it then because the Post Office was going to do it all.
“It’s one of the best post offices now, and it’s being used as an example for other postmasters.
“The building was derelict, but now it’s improving the value of the neighbourhood.”
Work was carried out on the entire property, including the floor, ceiling, and counter tops.
Mr Ali added: “It’s virtually a brand new building, and a lot of investment has gone into the branch.”
An official opening ceremony will be held at the post office at noon on Friday, November 29.
Several events are planned, as are VIP appearances.
