MUSIC and passion are most definitely in fashion this summer at the Pendle Hippodrome Theatre, as performers prepare to stage the musical Copacabana.

Inspired by the opening line of Barry Manilow’s Grammy Award winning song Copacabana, the musical of the same name tells the story of struggling songwriter Tony and his love for showgirl Lola.

Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company hopes to bring a taste of Las Vegas glitz and glamour to the Colne venue as they bring to life the love story, at the heart of the swinging nightclub scenes in 1940s’ New York and Havana.

Teenage dancer Cathryn Osborne has taken on the task to choreograph her first full production with the Barry Manilow-penned show.

Society spokeswoman Milly Greenwood said: “Cathryn is one of the area’s most accomplished dancers and has danced in shows and professional pantomimes from a young age gaining valuable experience to pass on to the cast of this dazzling show.

“Angela Boult as producer and Dan Cox as musical director will bring sparkle to this fabulous production.”

Young stars Gary Dowson and Sophie Lord lead the all-singing, all-dancing cast as Tony and Lola.

And it’s not just fans of Manilow’s music who will enjoy the show, with hit songs Who Needs To Dream, Just Arrived and Sweet Heaven all featuring, as well as the title song.

Also starring are Liz Wellock as Conchita, Sam Crabtree as Rico, Simon Jackson as Willie, Fiona Thompson as Gladys and Mark Brady as Sam Silver.

They will be joined in this colourful and vibrant show by a cast of show girls and boys as they whisk you from New York to Havana and back again.

* Copacabana runs from Tuesday, September 28 until Saturday, October 2. Tickets are available online at www.phtheatre.co.uk.
