Residents of a Burnley care home were treated to a mouthwatering meal by a celebrity chef to celebrate Great Britain and all it has to offer.

Theo Michaels, who rose to fame in 2014 after appearing on MasterChef, visited Rossendale House on Friday, May 3 to give residents and their families an incredible dining experience.

The chef and his team took over the kitchen to rustle up a three-course meal with a menu inspired by Britain’s most popular and well known dishes.

A starter of prawn cocktail was followed by a main course choice of battered haddock with hand-cut triple-cooked chips and crushed mint peas, baked haddock with crushed new potatoes, pea puree and a tomato and basil sauce, or cheese, onion, and potato pie with hand-cut triple-cooked chips with crushed mint peas.

To round off the meal, diners could choose from either apple and blackberry crumble with custard, Manchester tarts, a sherry trifle or a lemon tart.

The dining area in Rossendale House was adorned with red, white, and blue flowers arranged in vases and British bunting, while some residents chose to adopt British-coloured clothing for the day.

Residents also enjoyed music from the 50s while food orders were taken and served, and once lunch was finished, they gathered in the lounge to participate in a Great British Quiz.

To end the day, Craig Williams, from the hit TV show Benidorm, came in to put on a spectacular show and had residents dancing all night long.

Dorothy Needham, a resident at the home, said: “Theo is divine. His cooking was beautiful, he even came and spoke to us. He’s so down to earth.”

Renne Hill, another resident, added: “It’s been good fun this afternoon, hasn’t it?”

Staff at Rossendale House said the residents had a fantastic day and spent days afterwards talking about the fun they had.
